The advanced version of the FTP is a secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) that carries out the same functions but in a more secure way. Files can be securely sent from a chosen source to SFTP or vice versa. In particular, here we explore the Salesforce SFTP integration with a focus on cloud data export into the file storage.This article explores a standard method for migrating data from Salesforce and SFTP. It also presents other methods, such as exporting data with third-party tool Skyvia and importing files from SFTP via Salesforce Cloud and Skyvia. Standard Salesforce Data Export Method to SFTP

Salesforce offers different methods for extracting data, either with native tools or APIs. By the standard method, we imply the extraction of data from Salesforce into a CSV file and its further upload to the SFTP server.

Data Extraction

1. Log into your Salesforce account.
2. Click on the gear icon and select Setup from the list.
3. In the search box, start typing “Data Export” and select the corresponding option that appears in the panel on the left.
4. Click Schedule Export and select the objects that you want to save.
5. Make sure that the CSV file format is chosen for export.
6. Specify the time for data export and set up the frequency at which it should occur.
7. Click Save & Run to start the data export process.
8. Once the CSV file with the exported data is ready, Salesforce will send you a notification.

Data Transfer

1. Connect to your SFTP server either by using a dedicated client tool or via Command-Line Interface (CLI).
2. Enter the SFTP server details (hostname, port, username, and password) to establish a connection.
3. Navigate to the directory where the CSV file with Salesforce data needs to be stored.
4. Drag and drop the exported CSV files from your computer to a chosen SFTP server directory.

This method is obviously suitable for occasional data transfers when a one-time data upload from Salesforce to SFTP needs to take place. Given that it’s a manual process, it mightn’t be the right solution for frequent data transfers.

Exporting Data from Salesforce with Skyvia

• Go to Create New -> Export in the top menu.
• Select Salesforce as a source.

Step 2. Specify Data Integration Parameters

• Click Add new to set up the integration parameters.
• Indicate the file name for the resulting file.
• Select the objects that need to be exported from Salesforce.
• Decide whether file compression needs to be applied.
• In the Output Columns, verify the names of the columns and make any changes if needed.

Step 3. Set Recurring Data Load

• If you’d prefer to make data exports regular, click Schedule in the upper-left corner of the integration scenario screen.
• Indicate the recurrence preferences, time zone, and scheduling parameters.

Step 4. Start Export

• Once the integration scenario is set up, click Create.
• Start the immediate data export by clicking Run or wait for the scheduled export.

Importing Data with Salesforce Cloud

In case you need to send data in the opposite direction, the import from SFTP to Salesforce takes place. Note that the data on the server needs to be prepared and cleansed in advance before transfer.

1.  Log into your Salesforce Data Cloud account.
2. Go to the Data Cloud Setup menu.
3. In the Configuration tab, select More Connectors.
4. Click New.
5. Choose the Secure File Transfer (SFTP) option from the list and click Next.
6. Enter the connection name, API name, and the required authentication details.
7. Click Test Connection to see whether the connection was established properly.
8. Click Save.

Now, Salesforce is ready to receive files from the SFTP server and integrate them into the system.
