All business professionals were excited to learn that Skype for Business Server 2019 is set to arrive very soon this year. During the Ignite Orlando Conference, Microsoft announced that it will launch Skype for Business Server 2019. The launch will be sometime towards the end of this year. They are also launching a preview version sometime during the next few months for testing as well.
There are lots of new features and improvements coming with this version. One of them is support for the C2R clients that have a business-ready phone. And then there’s also improved security and performance as well as better mainstream support. They also have improved interoperability for team, a complete MAC client, IT PRO and VOICE Centric release as well.
Another interesting thing to note is that the new version will be compatible with the previous Skype for Business Server from 2015. It will also be backward compatible with the Lync server too. It’s a very good thing to have a new version. The last one is already 3-4 years old and it lacks some features that have become pivotal since that release.
The Skype for Business Server 2019 version will include standard auto attendants, call queues and voicemails. As a result, there will be less server dependency and better performance. They are also bringing in a unified portal that you can use for analytics and call reporting. And yes, there’s complete interoperability support coming for both Skype for Business Server 2019 and Microsoft Teams. There will be migration paths too. So even if you plan to move to Microsoft Teams in the next few years, the shifting process will go smoothly and without any major issues.
If you want to run the 2019 version of the Skype for Business Server, you will need at least the Windows 2016 version and SQL 2016. In case you have an upgrade to the Skype for Business Server 2015 version, this new version will not work. So you do need to fulfill the aforementioned requirements for everything to work.
Also, there aren’t any upgrades in place right now. This means that for the time being you won’t be able to migrate from Skype for Business Server 2015 to the new version. It’s important to note that Skype for Business will also have a standard edition that will arrive next year.
They removed the director roles. And they modified the former online code to create the new server. This is designed to offer more efficiency and value, all while bringing you many of the server-side advantages listed above.
If you want to use the Skype for Business Server 2019 version, it’s important to note that even on-premise users will have access to the cloud practices. There will also be Office 365 integration, and this will make the entire process faster and more efficient. As you can see, Skype for Business Server 2019 is set to be a stellar improvement when compared to the previous version. The great thing is that we will be able to start using it late this year!
